Boudoir is a beautiful genre of photography and it is one that I absolutely adore. For me, Boudoir is a beautiful and intimate portrait of yourself and there is a special interplay between subject and photographer that is essential for my client to relax, be herself and in the end, really see herself in the final boudoir portrait.
It is one thing to look like you are “putting it out there” for someone else all sex kitten like (which too is fun), but it is far more powerful image in my
opinion to be able to capture the authentic beauty and vulnerability of my subjects that only a lover may witness…this is magic. I am proud to say, that I rarely touch up my images but rather use light and camera angles to create the most flattering look. What I love most about this is that my clients and truly see themselves as they are – stunning- and not feel that they are looking at a “doctored” version of themselves that doesn’t feel authentic.
Here are some sneak peeks from Miss M’s recent Boutique Boudoir Session at the Thompson Hotel in Toronto. Miss M was in for hair and make-up bright and early and with her Jimmy Choo heels and a suitcase of Victoria Secret in hand…she was stunning and we had a blast. {a bit about me Thursday} Ottawa Wedding Photographers
What girl doesn’t need a day dedicated just to herself? Yeah would be nice…but right now, in the height of a very busy wedding season, there will be none of that for me. Instead, I thought I might take a moment to connect, if only to end my blogging dryspell. I have had some wonderful weddings this summer, from large flamboyantly joyous ones to warm intimate and …dare I say many have left me bleary eyed…Love is a beautiful thing. My favorite destination wedding to date has got to be my recent European wedding in the Czech Republic with Katie and Jiri…I have always wanted to travel there and it was an amazing occasion. While in Prague, I took advantage of the rain to get up at 5:30 am to capture an image of the St. Charles Bridge with only myself and a lone spectator with an umbrella there. Anyone who has visited the bridge before, knows what a hive of activity it can be and how rare a moment this can be…
As of this 3rd week of August:
1.FAVORITE SONG: Stereo Love by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina – I have purchased all available remixes available on itunes.
2. SHAMELSS PLUG: I suspect Stereo Love will be rocking the next Boudoir Marathon in Toronto on September 26th…1 Spot left! psst…call me 😉
3. STATUS: I have 6 weddings left to shoot in 2010.
4. PERSONAL: I crashed my 1999 VW, it is a total loss and need to buy a new car
5. WEAKNESS: I succumbed to my weaknesses for awesome glass once more and purchased the Canon 100 mm f 2.8 IS lens which I have been lusting after for several months…Look out details…here I come. I am now lusting after a 35mm prime lens (I have a sick obsession with primes)
6. DISLIKE: I really dislike KD…this is a non food.
7. LIKE: Clients that truly appreciate the hours of time I invest in the work I deliver to them-doing things well really takes time…thank you to all of you 😉
8. PEEVE: while I love videographers and appreciate their work…I so hate it when they are in my shot and they are wearing bold stripes.

Boudoir sessions can be a huge boost to a woman’s confidence. It is one of the most rewarding things for me as a photographer to see the moment a woman totally trusts me to see her as more beautiful than she can imagine herself, and for her to see herself as truly beautiful in her images…it’s awesome.

Boutique Boudoir Experience at the Hilton Lac Leamy- Ottawa Boudoir Photographers
Wanting to surprise her partner with a special birthday gift, I would with this client to create a boutique boudoir experience that nether of them would forget. We met early in the afternoon and we checked into a beautiful lakeview room at the Hilton Lac Leamy over looking the Hilton Lac Leam Amerispa. A stunning vista from the 14th floor set the backdrop for for this beautiful and very private boudoir session. Once again, my partner in crime Tracey Lahey arrived with her make-up magic. A critical component to creating stunning image and giving you that extra dose of confidence. (Tracey does an exceptional job with my clients to enhance their their look such that it is never overdone). While a little nervous to start out, soon we were talking like old girlfriends- a critical connection to get the best images. For this reason, many women feel very comfortable with a female photographer when they are at their most vulnerable. We had a blast with her wonderful collection of jewelry and shoes and because it was a private session we had enought time to even get some bubble bath and steamy shower shots! I am certain she didn’t start out that brave, but there really is a liberating feeling with boudoir photography that is wonderful. Nothing feels better for me as a photographer than to show the client some of the images we are getting during the session. They never cease to see themselves in a more beautiful light with renewed confidence…it’s wonderful.
WHAT THE CLIENT SAID ABOUT HER BOUTIQUE BOUDOIR SESSION: I’d like to thank you again for a great experience on Friday afternoon! As you know, my intentions were to provide X with a photo album from the session as a birthday gift, but it really did end up being all about me. Ottawa Spring Boudoir Marathon – Ottawa Boudoir and Photographer
The Winter Boudoir Marathon at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa was so much fun, the requests are coming in to host another in the Spring! I had such an amazing time with everyone, I couldn’t wait to host another. With an amazing stylist team of Lori Dyck and Tracey Lahey each client went into their session feeling absolutely amazing and it showed through in their images. While some did it for themselves and others did it for a significant other, all agreed that they had a blast and now see themselves very differently. This is the magic of boudoir photography: to create images of women that are beautiful, intimate and elegant and make women feel incredible about themselves. As much as they are sexy, the images are a lasting testament of beauty and a celebration of ourselves that lasts so much longer than a mani or a pedi…

Boudoir photography is a specialty that finds itself wedged between bridal and wedding photography and fashion photography; it is sensual, casual, fun, sexy and sophisticated. The images I create are fashion-inspired and grounded in fine art elements. Being skilled at posing clients such that their best features are enhanced makes boudoir a liberating experience that leave many of my clients feeling more beautiful than when they arrived. Because you cannot always see yourself from teh sexiest angles, boudoir photography offers you a beautiful perspective on yourself. It is a splurge like amy others, but I have yet to have a client that isn’t crazy about the results.

Love and Chocolate – Ottawa Wedding Photographer at the Cordon Bleu
You may be wondering, What do love and chocolate have to do with wedding photography? Well they both have to do with love, passion and pleasure. I never understood this more clearly than before I attended the chocolate demonstration at the Cordon Bleu Ottawa Culinary Arts Institute with Chef Christian Faure Meuilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) last night. He prepared Chocolate caramel, Chocolate Pistachio Cream and a to die for Ice Wine Ganache. As the chef explained, food nourishes us- it is what we need, but chocolate, it is for pure pleasure… and there is no bad pleasure. Light bulb! Chocolate is HOT and I’m not talking in a hot chocolate kind of way…I’m talking the hot steamy valentine’s day kind of way. After watching the delicate way by which decadent ganache is prepared or how the chocolate is turned and massaged for cooling or with the care with which caramel is magically created from pure sugar, I could not help but liken this delicate art to that of the magic of love itself. So as you celebrate your love and pleasure… I will just add this…pleasure is for savoring…Happy Valentines Day!

Boudoir Sessions at the Chateau Laurier – Ottawa Boudoir photographer
Since peak wedding photography season came to close, I have been looking so forward to shooting boudoir sessions at the Chateau Laurier here in Ottawa, Ontario- just in time for Valentines Day.
Why do I love boudoir photography so much? It’s truly like shooting for pure pleasure and fun – nothing could be sweeter for me. And, nothing feels better at the end of the shoot than to reflect back to someone how beautiful they really are.
What’s involved in a boudoir session? Well, not a whole lot. You bring your beautiful self and our hair and make-up person will prep you to be your sexiest. Then, for one hour (and it goes fast!) we wil work together to bring out your best.
My style is elegant, sophisticated, sultry and sweet. I like to create images that leave more to the imagination, but just enough to drive a man crazy. I take my inspiration for posing and lighting from fashion magazines and lingerie catalogs. I like being up on the latest trends, but stay true to the classic looks that make every woman beautiful.
I am also very excited that my signature album company irisbook in Vancouver, has come out with an awesome line of albums just for my boudoir photography clients.
